Exhibition: Mathieu Litt, “Oasis”

Photographs and installations by Matthieu Litt, with texts by Karel Logist

From 22 October to 8 December 2023, Liège photographer Matthieu Litt is presenting an exhibition based on his recent work entitled Oasis. The work is a poetic evocation of the Ry-Ponet area on the outskirts of Liège. This area of over 300 hectares, which straddles the municipalities of Liège, Beyne-Heusay, Fléron and Chaudfontaine, seems to have its own rhythm and is used by its inhabitants for very different purposes: as a green area where you can go for a walk, as a refuge from the noise of the city, and even as a place to live. Unfortunately, this important buffer zone for humans and animals is under threat of concreting. The photographer’s camera scans the site, the vegetation, the landscapes and the sky in a constant back-and-forth between reality and reflections on the inner world of emotions, impressions and experiences. This site-specific installation in Sart Tilman echoes the Ry-Ponet, moving from one natural setting to another.

The exhibition uses a variety of media and displays in different venues:

At the Maison des étudiants (B8):
(open Monday-Friday 9:00-18:00)
– large-format fabric prints hung in the basement exhibition spaces
– Photographic prints in Le Boudoir du B8 (2nd floor)

In the open air (open 24/7), a walk starting from the reception pavilion (B1), punctuated by around fifteen road signs with texts by Karel Logist, will take you to a viewpoint from which you can see the Ry-Ponet on the neighbouring hill.
