Exhibition: Quentin Caillaud “Pèye ou tièsse”

From 15 April to 15 June 2023, the Musée en plein air will present an indoor exhibition of ceramic sculptures by Quentin Caillaud, including a new piece created for the occasion. Caillaud’s works, with their grimacing, grotesque and multiple faces, seem to have escaped from a carnival. The artist forms his heads, “like a child’s game, a bet taken with oneself, the ambition to create a face without knowing what the result will be. It’s double or nothing, heads or tails (“Pèye ou tièsse” in Walloon) and at the same time a kind of controlled lottery that also leaves room for improvisation and exaggeration. A permission to move away from the starting point, to wander around for a bit more surprise and discovery. To get off the beaten track and who knows, maybe make an unexpected encounter.”

Born in Nice in 1992, Quentin Caillaud has been living and working in Brussels for 10 years. After studying at the ERG, he joined the Nice carnival team for two years, where he learned polystyrene sculpture and painting techniques, before taking up ceramics on his return to Belgium.
